RETIE

Based on the safe use of electrical appliances, the National Energy Department of Colombia issued requirements on how to ensure the safety of electrical production, application, and transmission in 2004.

RETIE (REGLAMENTO TECNICO DE INSTALACIONES ELECTRICAS), as the technical legislative body of Colombia, implements and revises the <Standard Technical Regulations for Electrical Equipment>. Emphasizes and describes in detail the test requirements and installation requirements of each electronic and electrical product used in Colombia (including components and household appliances, telecommunications products, commercial electrical products, etc.). As long as the products listed in this <Standard Technical Regulations for Electrical Equipment>, certification must be compulsory. Products that use AC 200W and 25V or more must have RETIE certification before they can be exported to Colombia. The customs will check the relevant RETIE certificate during customs clearance.
Generally, the content of the Colombian standard is also established on the basis of the international IECEE standard, and additional clauses are added corresponding to the national conditions.

Regulation RETIE is a regulation promulgated by the Colombian government for the safety of the following electrical installations:

  • Protection of human health and life

  • Protection of animal and plant life

  • Environmental protection

  • Prevent practices that may mislead users

The scope of RETIE certification aims to control the following aspects of electrical installations:

  •  Electrical installation

  •  Personnel (responsible for electrical installations)

  • Products (supervised by RETIE)
